Justin Barrie

Justin was called to the Alberta Bar in August 2017 and is an Associate Lawyer at Neuman Thompson. Justin spent a summer with Neuman Thompson before returning for his articling year upon the completion of his Juris Doctor. Justin has contributed on matters in all areas of labour and employment law including several labour and employment conference publications. He is particularly interested in assisting employers of all sizes in effective policy and contract drafting and is knowledgeable in matters including cannabis at the workplace (medical and non-medical), occupational health and safety compliance, employee/contractor status disputes, privacy matters, and emerging legal trends in technology and social media.

Justin graduated from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law in June 2016. During school, Justin spent two years as the VP Communications for the Sports and Entertainment Law Society (SELS) and was actively involved in mentorship opportunities. He also represented the U of A in the 2015 Hockey Arbitration Competition of Canada (HACC) at the University of Toronto. Prior to law, Justin achieved a Bachelor of Commerce with Distinction from the University of Alberta, majoring in Business Law and Economics.

Outside of law, Justin is a passionate soccer fan and a supporter of the growing esports industry.

  • Elected on a two-year term to the Board of Directors of Edmonton and District Soccer Association (2017-2019).
  • Coach, manager, and player on several men’s soccer teams.
  • Regular guest arbitrator for the U of A’s Sports & Entertainment Law Society’s internal hockey arbitration case competition.
