Justin M. Barrie

Justin was called to the Alberta Bar in August of 2017 and is now an Associate Lawyer at Neuman Thompson. Justin spent a summer with Neuman Thompson before returning for his articling upon the completion of his Juris Doctor. Justin has assisted on matters in all areas of labour and employment law through both research and direct client interaction and has contributed to several labour and employment conference publications. He is particularly interested in assisting employers of all sizes in handling medical marijuana accommodation, navigating privacy legislation, drafting employment and contractor agreements, and developing human resources and social media policies.

Justin graduated from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law in June 2016. During school, Justin spent two years as the VP Communications for the Sports and Entertainment Law Society (SELS) and was actively involved in mentorship opportunities and intramural soccer activities. He also represented the U of A in the 2015 Hockey Arbitration Competition of Canada (HACC) at the University of Toronto, finishing as a quarter-finalist.

Prior to law, Justin achieved a Bachelor of Commerce with Distinction from the University of Alberta, majoring in Business Law and Economics. In addition to his legal career, Justin remains a passionate soccer fan and an active follower of the emergence of the esports industry.

  • Elected on a two-year term to the Board of Directors of Edmonton and District Soccer Association (2017-2019).
  • Coach, manager, and player on several men’s soccer teams.
  • Regular guest arbitrator for the U of A’s Sports & Entertainment Law Society’s internal hockey arbitration case competition.
